It grew on me
I never thought I wanted or needed a pad in addition to my laptop and smart phone. I purchased this specifically to run software for musical performances that only works on iPad. I have since found many uses for it. It has replaced my Macbook for routine things like reading the paper, displaying recipes in the kitchen, playing sudoku, etc. It is very handy.
The battery life isn't long compared to my Macbook. Perhaps this is because I bought it used. Still, the battery life is not really a problem and in normal use I only need to recharge every couple days.
I am quite pleased with the purchase.
