The Forgotten Man: Elvis Finds His Family
The action is non-stop from the moment Elvis receives a phone call telling him he is needed to identify the body of a man who claimed to be his father. Elvis is "tired of hurting" and decides to accept the challenge to find out who this man was. The novel is full of nasty characters, past murders, revenge killings, and a psychotic man out to kill Elvis. Is this man Elvis' long lost father? His partner, the mysterious Joe Pike, is once again at his side and literally breathes life into Elvis before it is at an end. Carol Starkey, the gutsy detective heroine from The Demolition Angel, also appears in this book. She first met Elvis and Joe in The Last Detective, but in this one, she falls in love with Elvis who cannot see that love. The end is about family, a family more than blood as both Joe Pike and Carol Starkey express their feelings for the dying Elvis Cole. The final moments of the story will bring a lump in your throat. If you prefer the familiar wise-cracking, witty banter of Elvis Cole, then you are out of luck on this one. The book is a tense, thrilling, non-stop action from the first phone call to the heart wrenching ending. The Forgotten Man is a superb and great book. Robert Crais is one of the best writers of our times.
