An extraordinary digital SLR
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a 10.1 megapixel camera. Its many modes makes it possible to deal with unusual photographic situations much better than many other similar cameras.
For those who refuse to use Windows for their operating system, the digikam, gimp, and gphoto2 programs provide very complete image downloading, editing, and downloading capacity with this camera.
I wanted to use this camera with microscopes using projection eyepieces. There are inexpensive T adapters, M42 adapters, and Nikon adapters to permit attaching this camera with many different microscope accessories. It has a full manual exposure mode. The camera has an electrical remote shutter release to avoid vibration. In practice it has proven to be a first rate microscope camera.
The Nikon adapter also permits using it with my very old Nikon lenses. This was an important factor in the decision to purchase this.
The camera is light. That is both a good thing, and the cameras worse feature, a lot of plastic was employed in its manufacture. One wonders how well this will hold up over the years. My 1970 Nikon F2S is still in perfect working order. I am sure this camera will NOT be working in 37 years. It is a technical wonder, but its construction quality is NOT up to the standards of decades ago. No other modern cameras are up to these standards either.
The RAW mode provides a lot of extra versatility. The Unix program dcraw and similar programs permit converting these into 16 bits/colour ppm images. This permits editing to get good images of subjects with very large light intensity range.
One of my biggest complaints about this camera is the simple fact that Canon not only does not provide support for other operating systems, they seem actively hostile against such users. It would NOT be difficult for them to do this.
The quality of images produced with this camera far exceed the image quality produced with 35 mm colour negative film. It seems to match in image quality medium speed colour slide film. It only has a little ways to go to exceed the image quality of the now discontinued Kodachrome II or Fuji 50.
A few things need to be said about sensor size. Because the sensor size is smaller than the 24x36 mm dimensions of a 35mm film frame, a given lens will take in a smaller picture area. There is one good thing about this, namely, there is greater depth of field. Larger sensors would permit higher resolution before diffraction became the limiting factor in photography. With this camera we are near the point where diffraction becomes important in resolution.
The camera works very well with the Canon 10-22 mm lens.
I also have mounted it on an 800mm T mount lens obtained over 35 years ago with excellent results.
The competitors were Nikon and Olympus. This camera provided a higher resolution sensor. It also seemed much more versatile. Above all, it permits the use of my old Nikkor lenses in manual mode. Above all this camera seemed to provide more for the money!

LCD glass bathroom scale
This thing seems to be wonderful, a fantastic bargain for its price. It looks very good. It works very well. It has the nice feature of locking the weight after it stabilises. It is very easy to read. So far I have found nothing wrong with it!

LS-100 cycling shoes
These shoes look very good. They also are extremely comfortable. I have already ridden about 500 km riding them, and they seem even more comfortable after some use.
The cleat mount system and parts seems to be first rate. However, the cleats seem to extend a bit more than some, making any necessary more difficult.
Like many (probably most) bicycle shoes the real size seems to be a bit smaller than the stated. Mine seems more like a 45 rather than 46. However, I deliberately ordered it larger than my normal shoe size because this sizing seems normal!
I am a bit concerned about the tightening mechanism. It seems to work well now, but will they hold up well with heavy useage?
It is difficult to determine yet if these shoes were a good value!
