Nikon D80 DSLR 10.2 Megapixel Camera
125 of 131 found this helpful I have owned a Nikon D50 for several months. The only thing that is not perfect on this camera is the display on top does not light up at night. This makes it impossible to choose flash mode, etc. in the dark. I upgraded to the Nikon D80 a few weeks ago. The cameras are very, very similar. The main difference to me is the larger LCD sreen, the larger eye piece, more megapixels, and the lighted top panel on the D80. Normal use and picture quality is virtually the same. Battery life is phenominal. I could probably get 1000 pictures per charge! (I found that the bigger files take more time to process on my computer.) I think the lens you use is probably more important for great pictures than the camera. I have used lots of lens over the years with 35mm and digital photography. I purchased a Nikon 18-200 VR lens in April (had to wait for two months to get it). I no longer carry a tripod or two or three lens (an advantage to using one lens is that your sensor stays clean). The vibration reduction is better than I believed possible. I said all that to say this, I think the D50 is better than the D70 or D70S, and the D80 is as good as it gets.
