Drive failure

When I first plug it in it show that it had a power failure. When I try to format the drives I rad 5 , it kept giving a drive 2 failure. When I pull the drive and replaced it with an 8tb drive it worked. Reviewing the log of the device I found out that the raid had been deleted and the nas reset then the power was cut off without shutting down the nas. A bad thing to do with drives. Talk to Wd about the drive to see if there was something I could do to revive the drive. They had me do a low level format using debug from a windows 2000 disk. It took a 3 days to check the drive for defects on its platters. It found over 259 defects and moved them to a safe sector on the drive so they could not be used. After that I put it back in the nas and configure it for rad 5 and it worked after that. God using debug brought back memory’s of the ‘MFM’ and ‘RRL’ days. So the moral of this is don’t just yank the power cord out of something without shutting it down first. I don’t think I will be buying anything else from this person if this is how he treat’s electronics that are easily damage by doing this.
