A surprisingly handsome watch up close. ...
A surprisingly handsome watch up close. I haven’t really explored all its functions, but the world map and “digital dial” (representing hour, minute and second hands) are thoughtful inclusions. Viewing angle is respectable. The amber backlight is a great color but a little uneven, and I wish it would stay illuminated when I hold the button down.

Fast lens, full of character
I use this lens for shooting video on my Canon T2i and I love it, first for its speed. f 1.4 means you can shoot in almost any lighting conditions, particularly combined with the T2i's ISO 6400 setting. I also love this lens's focal blur characteristics at larger aperture settings. Completely unlike anything I've seen before. Beautiful contrast and a great MTF curve, too.
The trade-off when using such old, uncoated glass is that the internal reflections can be really shocking. For my kind of shooting I don't mind them, but I can see that being a sticking point for some buyers. It's possible the newer E series 50/1.4 does a better job in this department.
All in all a great lens--I use it just as much or more than the AF kit zoom that came with my Canon.
