Poor Quality, Cheap Design.
1 of 4 found this helpful This is a toy. It has a clamp to hold the knife to be sharpened but it is narrow and does not provide enough width. With a long kitchen knife the whole knife slips as one tries to turn it over and in my case it cut me with a cut of about 50mm. The clamps that hold the rods is of poor quality and come loose easily requiring the bar to be reset. This has to be done by laying on a flat surface to ensure that the bar is on the same plane as the stone. The stone, that is covered in oil, leaves the oil on the surface. The bar is similarly not held firmly by the clamp and can swivel requiring resetting again to make sure you are grinding at the same plane. Annoyingly the stone frequently slips off the end of the stone and this is frustrating.
The mechanism to keep the stone at the right angle to the blade is good. The unit is cheap and quality has been skimped on totally unnecessarily considering the asking price. The stones are also too narrow and one has to move the blade along the knife to complete the full length of the blade for most utility blades. Probably better for pocket knives.

Disappointing Finish and Packaging.
1 of 1 found this helpful Ordered this unit but the description does not say what is included in the package. Wrote when I received it to say that the flue that between the two barrels was not part of the items delivered. Expressed my concern that this should have been included but have not received any reply! The parts seem to be of a good quality except for the dampener control, which is a bent screwdriver and quite unacceptably inaccurate in its function. Have had to have a stainless steel rod inserted in its place. The remaining parts are chinese made cast iron and they look reasonably good but still need to be tested. We have 55gal drums here in Oz but the parts fit our drum quite well. The door is once again poorly finished with pathetic handle and poor catch design. The packaging was also not up to standard as the nuts and bolts had come out of the too thin plastic packet and were all over the base of the cardboard box. A real shame as the concept is a good one.
