Great photo quality with some flaws.
6 of 6 found this helpful The Sony AS100V is one of the best action cameras with some flaws. First for the pros, the picture quality is better than most action cameras out there. The reason for this is that in the highest pixel count of any action camera that I know of. At 13.5M pixels it is even higher than the latest Sony Action Cameras (see data below). So, the video and photo quality is very good. Some people don't like the distortion of the fisheye lens and think that it is more than the GoPro and others, however, I don't mind it. It has the ability to take some amazing shots. Part of the fisheye effect is to give your photos a different look and that is what it does. The color is very vibrant and on the cooler side which appeals to me. The stabilization works pretty well and probably the best stabilization in its class of action cameras.
Where the camera fails is in the user friendliness. First, the button for recording and taking pictures is difficult to activate. It increasingly got worse and worse after a year and then finally broke. To replace the record button was going to cost $100 for parts from Sony so I decided to pass and get one of the newer versions. Not only is the record button difficult to use, the button is in an awkward position. The newer cameras solved that problem by putting the button on the top which is a major improvement but the newer cameras have decreased photo quality. Next the user interface is really disappointing. To do something simple like switch modes from video to camera or burst mode, it takes going through several menus to switch. Very frustrating especially when you are in the field and need to switch modes quickly to get a shot. There are times when you really want to take video and other times when you want to take pictures. Being able to quickly switch modes is really important. You can switch modes quicker with the live remote but personally I don't like the live remote. It is really big and bulky.
I am not sure why they decided to decrease the resolution of their cameras. It is really disappointing because there is a noticeable decrease in the quality of their photos. Here is the lineup of the Sony Action Camera and the resolution of the pictures. The AS100V is 1.5 Megapixel more than the rest. While that doesn't seem significant, it definitely equates into better photo quality. I have the AZ1 and the photo quality is decent but comparing the photos of both the AS100V to the AZ1, the pictures of the AS100V are clearly better. Here is all the specs of photo resolution for most of the models. The AS100V stands with the highest quality.

If you can deal with all the annoyances, you will get great quality photos. However, you just hope that the camera record button doesn't break.

Very good rod rack.
Very good rod rack. Sits solidly on the wall once installed. Price is good. However, there are a few improvements that would make it much better. Spacing could be better. The spacing is quite tight so reels can have conflict with each other. It fits baitcaster reels better, but for spinning reels the handles have to turned or they won't fit next to each other. Also, the foam could be stronger, the foam is kind of brittle.

Solid heart rate monitor and does that job very well
1 of 1 found this helpful Solid heart rate monitor for accuracy and ease of use. As a heart rate monitor, it is does that job very well. It seems very accurate and clearly displays constant heart rate any given second you look at your watch. I have yet to drop the signal and never need any gel connection. It gives you basic information for a particular workout like high/low heart rates, in the zone, and duration of workout. It is good because you can customize the watch to your personal specs based on max heart rate and resting pulse. It is easy to navigate the watch interface and get the information you want. Heart rate chest strap is pretty comfortable and you don't notice it much, but can slip a little. The chest strap would be much better with some silicone on the inside to grip to your chest.
However, it is basically just a good heart rate monitor and lack features for more advanced athletes. One thing is that the watch plastic is really hard and would be better with softer material, but during workouts it isn't really uncomfortable.
