Lucifer Battlestar Galactica 8" Series 3 Action Figure MOC Bif Bang Pow 2014
Aaah, the 1970's. I am so fortunate to have been a kid during a period when Sci-Fi exploded at the movies and on television. Star Wars in 1977 blew me away and then 1978 gifted me with awesome memories of the silver Cylon Centurions, their Gold Cylon Commanders, Boltar the human traitor, Base-Star ships, Raider fighters and of course, Lucifer (the topic of this review).
I have managed over the years to collect both the Cylon variations as well as Adama, Starbuck and Apollo from Amok Time. Truly excellent 12 Inch figures with lots of detail and accessories. No such luck with a Lucifer figure though. I'd never bought a Bif Bang Pow figure before and always found them to be too "cartoonish" for my liking. Out of desperation to have a Lucifer figure I ordered this 8 Inch figure.
I must admit that it does look better in hand than I had expected. That said, the face sculpt does not capture the evil menace of the character in the original Battlestar Galactica series. The red robe looks, to me at least, accurate and the figure appears to be of good quality. A downside to the use of blister-packaging in the way this manufacturer did is that the figure's nose can rub against the clear plastic when stacked and my figure had lost some paint to this wear. Some modelling paint should sort this out as the silver used looks generic. Still, I'd have rather displayed him in the packaging but the damage denies me the choice.
It might seem that I wouldn't recommend the figure but I do. We don't really have alternatives in the marketplace and with the fan-base aging I don't think newer/better versions will appear. That said, I am thus very happy to add the little bad-guy to my BSG collection. The scale is wrong to the rest of my collection and the detail inferior but conversely this makes him stand-out among the others so a negative becomes a positive in a way.
As a strange ending to my purchase, when the Dollar price was converted to South African Rands it amounted to 666 Rand ! This provided me with a cool story when visitors ask about the figures =)
I hope that this review has at least provided you with a bit more detail with which to make the decision to purchase or not.

STAR WARS 31 INCH X-WING FIGHTER HASBRO
I received this Star Wars vehicle around the same time as Fedex delivered my 31 Inch Jakks Stortrooper and to a large extent what I felt about that figure applies to this X-Wing as well (so please excuse some copy and pasting =)
I am old enough to have attended the original theatrical release of Star Wars way back in 1977. The movie affected me in a profound way, letting me see beyond the rather poor area I grew up in and imagine a fantastic future. Being from a rather impoverished area meant that my all consuming yearning for Star Wars toys could only be met by a single 3 inch Stormtrooper which my dear Mom saved up to get for my Birthday. He and I had tons and tons of adventures and I loved the little guy to death.
Now fast forward from the 70's and that single small figure to me receiving this colossus via Fedex ! The vehicle is MASSIVE and rather well sculpted. The build quality is excellent and the ship looks as if it could take quite a bit of punishment. Despite being rather simplistic by modern offerings of the iconic X-Wing in smaller scales, the right setting and lighting will make this a wonderful and impressive addition to your Star Wars collection.
Display-wise, you don't really have options, the wings open-up in the same manner as the movies and the landing gear extends to permit a "landing-scene". Details on the vehicle are sparse compared to more high-end and smaller scale alternatives with the cockpit windows being simple stickers, no weathering to speak of and panels/parts being simple with R2-D2 being simply a "head-and-shoulders" part. Again though, I honestly think that both the scale and price mitigate this short-coming.
How much did I like this vehicle ? When appreciated for what it is and the price asked, I am very happy to add this vehicle to my modest collection. A bit of basic plastic modelling style weathering byway of artists pastels and oils will add more "life" to what, when first purchased, is very much a toy. I intend adding a nice "used" hangar base diorama and some figures of appropriate scale to add to the overall effect. Perhaps some led lights if I can find the energy =)
I'd recommend this ship to the average collector. High-end collectors will most likely be disappointed but for those of us with Star Wars childhoods wishing for the associated toys will definitely be overjoyed.
May the Force be with you !

The Force is Strong with this One
2 of 2 found this helpful Hi there fellow Star Wars Fan
I'd previously bought a Stormtrooper helmet from Rubies that turned-out to be made of hard-ish vinyl/rubber and, although a full 1:1 helmet, was small versus the screen-used pieces as well as being sub-par detail-wise. Ah, the perils of buying over the internet =(
That in mind, I was skeptical when I saw this particular helmet on offer. I couldn't recall the model number of the afore-mentioned piece so making this purchase was a real leap-of-faith.
Well, I am very please to report that this helmet is galaxies ahead of my first helmet. It is made of hard plastic like those used in the movies and is large indeed (again, accurate versus the screen-used pieces). Inside you will find some foam padding as well as straps which allow you to achieve a good fit.
The clips of the straps, their connections to the helmet as well as the straps themselves are of suprisingly good quality. One might want to add a bit more foam padding, but that will be a personal preference. The vents in the "nose" section are well detailed and, again surprisingly, allow proper breathing. The lenses look the proper shape, size and "smoke" color to me at least. I must also add that the front two "connectors" seem to have real metal grills which is a nice feature.
Wearing the helmet also reveals the actual reason the Stormtroopers couldn't shoot properly ... it is damn difficult to see out of the helmet even with a proper fit using the straps. Not impossible mind you, just not easy =)
In summary, a very nice Stormtrooper helmet of good quality, great detail, proper size, decent comfort and all at an affordable price.
Well done to Rubies on a wonderful product, I am very proud to add it front and center to my small Star Wars collection. Now, if you could do the Tie Fighter Pilot, AT-AT Driver, Scout Trooper and Emperor's Guard in the same manner I would be extremely grateful.
