The Greatest Sitcom of All Time
1 of 1 found this helpful The final season of The Golden Girls - the greatest season of the greatest television comedy ever created. The dynamic among the characters is unrivaled and rarely does a show last for 7 seasons without losing an actor. But these women stayed for the duration, and the creators and network were smart enough to know that when one character leaves (as was the case with Bea Arthur), you don't attempt to maintain the same format. The spin-off did not work, which ultimately proved that the cast needed all of them, and it was just a reminder of how magical this unit of actresses really was. Season 7 is the greatest of them all. There may never be another show like this again - and they just never get old. I've rewatched them more times than I can count, and you will, too. Buy the original set if you can find it - in the cardboard case with the tri-fold case inside. If you purchase the original set, you can't go wrong.

Lighthearted, hilarious show in a great set.
1 of 1 found this helpful Mama's Family is simple, but so entertaining! Characters and sets are vivid and colorful - especially Thelma. Simple situations and everyday problems, nothing heavy, but everything doesn't have to have a serious message about morality, life, or society, does it? We have enough of that with programs on now. It's great to have a show like this from the 80's that just makes you laugh.
What I love most about the arrangement of this set is that each case is its own season which can be purchased individually. So, if I happen to find a bad disc months from now, I won't have to replace the whole set to replace the disc - I can just find and purchase the one season I need. That isn't always true with many other TV show box sets, which often have different discs, different material and different cases in the box sets than in the individually sold seasons. This one is the way they all should be, and I love it.
Inserts are lovely booklets which have episode synopses and original air dates. Also, each season has some bonus material, though I've only started season 1 and am not sure what all it contains. I can't wait to find out!
Money well spent. I have many box sets and this is one of my favorites!
(And as usual, purchase from a legitimate seller who guarantees authentic DVDs! If you see poorly printed materials or artwork, if inserts are missing, and/or if the cases and discs are scratched or gritty, do some investigating.)
