Fuji FinePix F100fd
If you look at some review sites, a common complaint about the Fuji F100fd is that its user interface is too difficult and clumsy. However, I had the camera working almost at the level I will use it (quick shots, family, party, etc) in five minutes. Canon is probably a little better, but there are other, better reasons to get the Fuji F100fd.
The top reason is low light performance, which, as you see from comparisons at such places as dpreview.com, is markedly better than comparable cameras. This is why I bought the Fuji F100fd. In the kind of source light you'd find inside a house, an office, or just at dawn or dusk, it works very well. No, you can't shoot rapid motion in low light without blurring (unless you know how to lead a subject with the camera). It won't come close to your D50 or your D300, but cameras at that level, at least for this photographer, are for fine photography, whether still life work, portraiture, or carefully framed landscape work. I won't use the Fuji F100fd for that unless I have nothing else available.
This is not to knock the small Fuji in any way. It's fast to set up, has a terrific lens, adequate macro capacity, a longer-than-usual lens (28-140 equivalent) and good low light performance. The 12MP resolution is quite nice for outdoor photography. If you forget the D300 on a trip, you'll do okay with this camera. In long shots of pretty places, you'll see the details.
Color is strong. Professionals won't like it, but they have their class of camera to work with. The nice thing about strong, vibrant colors is, that if you don't want to spend time correcting color balance with software, most of the work is done in-camera at a standard that's fine for most picture takers. Fuji, for almost a century a major player in color film manufacture and processing, knows about color and it shows in the unretouched results from the F100fd.
Battery life is average. But 150 shots is pretty good (less with flash). The batteries are easy to get and inexpensive. Buy a couple, charge them all, use an SD with a couple of gig, and you'll be set for many hundreds of photographs.
The face detector firmware is quite effective. It even finds the faces in paintings!
The LCD monitor is a nice size, with good resolution, and about 99% coverage, which is about as good as it gets.
You may run into complications with the user interface, but for the most part the Fuji F100fd is a breeze to use with pleasurable results.

Copy Protection Reduces Value of PP&M Compilation
Average review is not for the songs. If you like PP&M and don't want to pull out songs by album, this and one or two other collections will do pretty well. Problem is that the disk is copy protected, so you can't mount it on your iPod, phone or iPad. Maybe you can but I don't have the time or inclination to explore potentially malware-infected rippers. The same problem affects PP&M's "Collection," originally put out by the now-defunct Readers Digest Music.

Terrific HD radio with a few things lacking
2 of 2 found this helpful Lacks external antenna jack, has only five memory locations for each channel, but works easily and has excellent sound. With an external antenna connected through an adapter that clips on antenna, HD reception is great.
