One of Jean's Best!
Jean Shepherd; what can you say? From his earliest days at WABC out of New York to seeing his work come to life in "A Christmas Story." This volume of biting wit ranks among his best works and reveals the roots of that epic holiday classic played every year, sometimes in 24 hr. marathon blow-outs. The homespun comedic genius of the boomer generation will probably outlast Stephen King. And through the magic of streaming today it's possible to find episodes of "Jean Shepherd's America" made in the '70's. Highly recommended reading for those with a base in the boomer years, anyone comedically curious about experiencing the hilarity of the era, and the dwindling ranks of literates with senses of humor. You'll love each and every chapter of kid life in Hohman, Indiana toiling through the challenges of Warren G. Harding Public School and its surrounding neighborhood. Enjoy!
Talking to the Dead: Kate and Maggie Fox and the Rise of Spiritualism (NoDust)

An Excellent Portrayal of an Amazing Period
This is the first of Ms. Weisberg's work I have read. I must say she has organized and presented a powerful delivery within her book. Her skill in depicting the origins of Spiritualism and its literal explosion around the world is impressive. Sadly, too few know of what must have been one of the most intriguing and impactful periods of history. Here is their doorway into knowing what rapidly essentially became a religion that, as many today, included extraordinary charlatans. Yet their presentations were simply fantastic as witnessed as told of by their "clients", many of whom became fanatical followers. [From all this came the "Theosophical Society" founded in 1875 and still very much alive today.] In a way, the exposure of some fraudulent "practicioners of the faith" was disheartening in the same way learning the secrets of a good magician can sometimes be. I highly recommend this book. As well as highly entertaining, this is an important entry among the far too few works on this episodic era that is still very much with us.

Excellent Treatise
One of Hancock's best works, highly recommended. True history exposed through an alternative set of facts that are simply refused recognition by mainstream academia.
