Big Box Octafuzz(2nd Version)
This review will be about the older big box Fulltone Octafuzz with switchable fuzz & octave modes(the second version before the current small box version). If you are a fan of Hendrix octave fuzz(as heard on the solo of Purple Haze & many other Hendrix classics), this pedal delivers that sound in spades. The pedal is based on the early '70s Tycho Brahe Octavia pedal which was lifted from Roger Mayer's original design as used by Hendrix. the head honcho of Fulltone, Mike Fuller, has recreated the iconic tone of this classic effect perfectly in the Octafuzz. I have a Mayer Octavia pedal as well and I use the Fulltone more often for this sound.
The real plus with the Octafuzz is the excellent sounding fuzz only mode though. Apparently one of the assemblers made a mistake by wiring a part of the circuit backwards. When Mike Fuller traced the problem, he stumbled on one unique & great sounding fuzz which became incorporated into the pedal. The fuzz has a soft blooming attack with a nasty edge at the tail of a note's sustain. The controls interact with the circuitry a bit differently in both modes, so settings which sound good in the Octave mode have to be adjusted to sound good when in the fuzz mode. I usually use the fuzz mode more often, but it's easy to adjust the two controls between songs.
The Octafuzz works great with most pickups though I prefer the pedal more with Fender type guitars. This version is a bit expensive on the used market, but well worth the price of admission if you're a fan of fuzz. Extremely responsive to picking dynamics, the Octafuzz also cleans up nicely with the volume control backed off. I love this pedal so much I have two of them.

Simply a great pitch vibrato.
The VB-2w can go from a mellow Leslie like warble to a fast frequency spin that many flangers couldn't touch.The two separate voicings both sound great, and the new buffer is absolutely stellar. I have played the original VB-2, and this is a great update that costs far less. Recommended pedal for those who pine for a pitch vibrato.

Ibanez GE-601: Not Just an EQ
This is specifically about the older Ibanez GE-601 with a square footswitch. This pedal was made by Japanese effects company Maxon and was made in the late '70s to early '80s before the model GE-9 replaced it. The GE-601 is a simple 6 band graphic eq. It covers 5 octaves of frequency starting 100 Hz,200 Hz, 400 Hz, 800 Hz, 1.6 kHz & 3.2 kHz. Each band has its own slider that can boost or cut by 12 dB. The pedal also has an overall output level slider that is +/- 12 dB. The eq can fix feedback problems with an amplified acoustic, but it really shines as a clean boosting pedal at the end of an effects chain. The pedal has an amazing clarity that drives a tube amp just perfectly. I personally use it with a bit of low end & top end boost with the output slider at +6-9 dB for signal boost. The GE-601 gives a bit extra oomph that cuts through when soloing. A really well designed pedal that offers some other colors to your fuzz & dirt boxes. I would buy another in a heartbeat as a backup.
