Great Music,but a bit scattered;good clips not cohesive
I find that this french production has Great Music,but is a bit scattered.It has really good clips of some of the greats of Cuban music ,but, is not cohesive as a Film. The director obviously loves Cuban music but this is not a serious study of the music. Instead, it's an afficionado's over view of "La Musica Cubana".It certainly is not an Enthomusicological Documentary. Due to it's slanted Cuban Nationalistic view it repeats over and over that Salsa is just Son Montuno. WRONG!!!! That may have been the case of Salsa's origin but the Totally NEW YORK sound known as Salsa also includes the elements of Puerto Rican Bomba & Plena as well as Jazz.
All this said; It's great for the collector of rare footage of Cuban Artists and I enjoyed watching Beny More one more time.Not a MUST HAVE but certainly worth having and watching.
