Vintage Faller HO Scale Houses
These HO scale houses were added to my 12' x 6' table-top war game.
During my 37 years of teaching history I was able to teach a military history class for the last seventeen years at Spartanburg High School. The one thing I was lacking were HO scale houses for my war games. So, when I had a chance to continue my table-top war games in Wofford's LifeLongLearning series, I decided to add some more authenticity with houses instead of cardboard cut outs of cabins, buildings, etc.
So, this past Winter semester I did my big armored warfare class "Bocage to the Bulge-1944" These houses, as well as other for European style cottages were an asset to my large table-top war game. Those 1/72nd scale Tigers and Panthers tracked roughshod over those 1/72nd scale Sherman's as they slipped out from behind hedgerows or from behind village houses in Normandy, and then in the snows of the Bulge.
Yes, I was very pleased to add these HO scale houses to my war game collection for my college war game class. The LLL series is geared towards 8 classes (one class a week for an hour and a half).

Model Train / Wargame Diorama Palm Trees of various scales will be utilized in my Fall 2019 Wargame on the Vietnam War.
This is the fourth or fifth set that I have purchased over the past year or so. These palm trees will fit in well with the table-top war game that I have planned for the fall semester of 2019 for my wargame class at Wofford College and its "LifeLong Learning" course.
I plan to do two large 12' x 6' tabletop scenarios for the Vietnam War. During the first session of four classes the wargame will cover the "Ia Drang Campaign."
The second wargame of four classes will cover the "Attack on Firebase Gloria.
"
The class will entail lecture, on my part, as I will incorporate my notes from my history warfare class at Spartanburg High School, since retired. I continue to teach at Spartanburg Community College as an Adjunct Professor, as well as an Adjunct Professor for the LifeLong Learning series, too. Also, I was Yeoman for Atkron-65 "Tigers" aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during our WESTPAC cruise off Vietnam in 1969.
Also, several members in our American Legion Post #28 in Spartanburg served in Vietnam during those war years and I plan to utilize their knowledge of the war for some lectures in the class, too. Also, I will incorporate some videos covering the above topics.
Then, the majority of the class will be spent over the 12' x 6' battle boards with the various types of terrain for Vietnam. Therefore, one can see how the multitude of palm trees that I have purchased will be utilized in the wargame.
Looking forward to putting this together over the summer of 2019 for my Vietnam Warfare Class for Wofford College and the LifeLong Learning course.
I do have one comment though and I do hope that someone will respond. By any chance can one order some plastic stands that will allow the palm trees point to be inserted into to help them stand up. In one of my other games, I had to use cardboard, with a punched hole to help in keeping the trees erect and then glue the cardboard down on the board. Surely, there are some large circular disks that can address this issue.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to my class on Vietnam in the fall of 2019 making, too.

Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo - dvd
I ordered the dvd "THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO" so that I would have a backup to my VHS tape of the same title. In case my Warfare class at Wofford College no longer uses VCRs with VHS capability, I now have a major back-up in the form of a dvd. It plays well on both of my VCRs at home.
The dvd is just what I need and as I said, I can use it at Wofford and even at Spartanburg Community College. I would not use the entire film, but only segments of the launching and bombing of Tokyo for my history classes. After all, I need to cover the rest of WWII.
What is so good about this dvd is that it extremely accurate, historical and militarily with the B-25 bombers and the launching off the U.S.S. Hornet. The film crew did an excellent job of splicing actual footage in with the special effects from the large sound stage.....F A N T A S T I C!
Entertaining can not touch how entertaining this dvd is in following the storyline from Ted Lawson's book on the same title. Too bad that teachers are brushing this phase of U.S. History and WWII off the radar scope. This bombing raid on several Japanese cities, specifically Tokyo, will have a resounding impact on American morale and will ultimately lead to the major turning point in the Pacific - the Battle of Midway.
The characters meet the criteria of portraying military bomber pilots for the United State Army Air Corp. From the beginning to the end, one will find oneself mesmerized in their training, their flying, and the camaraderie that is displayed in the movie. Also, one should note that the movie brings into the picture that a good number of these pilots did have wives that they were leaving behind, as well as not being able to tell them about their mission.
Overall, this is a quality dvd and tells a historical and engaging true story about sixteen bomber crews who did the unthinkable by surprising the Japanese and boosting American morale.
I highly recommend this product.
