A tiny vintage wonder
This is a vintage lens and thus it's not as sharp as contemporary ones sporting aspherical glass. Stopping it down to f/5.6 it gets plenty sharp though. However, I consider photography not primarily being about sharpness. I bought it for a specific character. I expected a certain soft "Leica-glow", which the images taken with the lens display. The 15-blade diaphragm also renders the out of focus areas of the image soft and creamy, highlights are circular - not hexagonal as in the modern version of this objective. Additionally, the lens is collapsable making a Leica-M pocketable. Therefore, considering my purchase profile, the Leica Elmar 50mm f/2.8 was an excellent buy.

Compact, lightweight and powerful
The Sigma fp is a minuscule power box. Its design is pure zen and the images it produces are fantastic, especially when used with the new Sigma I-series glass. I especially like the simplicity of the user interface. The menu is easy and straight forward. The lightness of the Sigma fp makes me carrying it where ever I go.

A Connoisseur's Dream
If you're a real optical specialty, this lens is for you. The Leica Thambar, a new edition of the original 1935 lens, creates marvellous dreamy portrait or landscapes. The under-corrected spherical aberrations let the subject glow. However, this optic needs some work how to handle it. Shooting contre-jour will create heaps of haze, which triggers the photographer's creativity how to implement it into the image. The enclosed central filter boosts the special character. Once the Thambar is stopped down, the lens behaves like a regular 90mm ooptic.
As usual, this is a typical Leica lens: durable, precise and beautiful. The brass barrel is certainly heavy, but over time it will get this unique patina. The lens comes beautifully packed with a present box that also includes a leather bag for the lens.
