AN INVALUABLE BOOK FOR ACHIEVING BREAKTHROUGHS IN COLOR THEORY & VALUES
This book is like going to art school. The exercises will help you discover your style and extremely good at proving color theory to the student. Exercises are posed to answer questions, i.e., When do colors vibrate? A full chapter on practicing Values, juxtaposing light and dark (chiaroscuro), a still life in half-tones, exciting shadow areas, plastic quality in a landscape: creating scintillating effects by selecting color which electrify each other. This book should be in every art students library, it is absolutely invaluable in learning color theory.

It's true Richard Schmid put all that he knows into words for everyone to learn.
An excellent source of information for any artist, beginner-advanced. It is well rounded in terms of all the information an artist needs to be successful. Such an easy read, information is clear and concise. If you struggle with color theory, this book has an amazing section and instructive color chart practice exercise. The photos of his paintings, may he rest in peace, are beautiful. This book is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading. You will enjoy it even if you are just a gallery owner, art collector or artist. Richard Schmid is well loved the world over. Thank you Richard Schmid for giving artists the gift of information.
