Barcelona, the Orchestrated version is a treat
The Barcelona 'redux' is a truly refreshing classical/opera rendition of the album collaboration between Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe'. If you've ever heard the original, it was a compromise consisting of the singer's voices and a synthesized orchestra, that perhaps to some, drained some of the legitimacy of the recording. The recording needed all the street cred it could get as is was a marriage of Mercury, an opera fan and Montserrat, an Opera professional. The extra cred came much later in 2012 after Mercury's death. The voices were lifted from the original recording and applied to a brand-new, fully-orchestrated analog Orchestral recording of the original music. The new mix takes away some of the 80's synthesizer cheesiness and replaces it with real and disciplined music.
The recording has always been a fun piece of 'pop-opera' and it is no less fun now. A new track, 'Exercises in Free Love' is included as a bonus. I recommend it. (See the included picture for the exact cover for this newer CD as the packaging differs greatly from the original release)
