Must be clearer of extra charges when buying from the UK

Bought this product from the USA,POSTAGE LOOKED OK UNTIL IT REACHED THE UK. UN KNOWN TO ME AT THE TIME THAT THERE ARE IMPORT CHARGES TOBE PAID BEFORE I COUD RECEIVE MY GOODS
