A great feel-good story, highly re-watchable, engaging from the very start
I've watched and re-watched this movie many times since I was a kid, yet I never get tired of it. The story engages you from the get-go, and the actors and their chemistry are all top-notch.

Worth watching once for the poker scenes but not the romance
Here's what I liked: that you got to see what big-stakes poker is really like and what the lives of those kinds of gamblers is like. I think if they had marketed as such, and not as a romance (which there is very little of), it would have done better. I liked Drew Barrymore, as always, but I felt like she was doing this movie reluctantly, between films when she was already exhausted or something. She just didn't put her usual zeal into it.
What I didn't like: Eric Bana. Bless his heart, but he seems to never be a good choice for lead actor. I liked him in Star Trek, but here, I was wishing someone else played the part, and that's never a good thing. He did fairly well when it came to playing poker, but, especially in the romance department, he came off as calloused and unlikable. I liked the dynamic with the relationship with his father. Maybe that was the real problem. They should've focused on that relationship and not the romance. After all *spoiler ahead* he makes the grand gesture at the end for his father, not the girl. He does barely anything at all for the sake of Drew's character.

This pulled me in from the start!
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was cleverly done, how they reenacted the stories in the premise of getting interviews for a story. The sets, costumes and editing were strong points. Some parts were stronger than others, Shula Cohen’s was the best imo. The actress who played her was first rate! That story and her bravery will inspire me for the rest of my life. I didn’t realize this comes from a longer series, so I went ahead and ordered that and look forward to it!
