One of Those Black American Books That White Americans Need to Be Familiar With.
A valuable book that fills in part of that great void in American education. Black soldiers and sailors came home from World War II thinking that they had earned their way to first-class citizenship, but that was not to be. Even German POWs living in camps in the South were treated better than returning black GIs. Men who should have won the Medal of Honor were passed over, and not until the 1990s, when the Army tried to make amends, were six black military men honored….posthumously. This is the story of one man's family reclaiming his right to be a hero. I'm sorry to say that I knew Sergeant Carter's son--the husband of the writer--but never knew about this side of his life while he was alive.

Day to day quotidian life in Nazi Germany, written as it happened by a Jewish citizen.
It's almost like reading a diary in the Trump era, but it's Germany in the 1930s and '40s.
