Solid HDD Model
1 of 1 found this helpful This is HDD is a reliable workhorse. Works great on Lenovo W, T and P models. I maintain a small reserve of the ST500LM021 to replace the existing internal HDDs of my technical consultants in the field as their drives fail due regular wear and tear, usually around 5 years. As we slowly transition to SSDs, these HDDs have a second life as a second internal drive where upgrades are possible and make sense; For example, most of our older machines are already i5 and i7 CPU. Many of these have an open 2nd internal bay or an internal DVD player that is convertible to HDD if you buy a HDD tray for $30. So basically on the cheap you can expand a perfectly good machine from 500MB to 1TB. We couldn't do this at the time of original laptop purchase due to prices and maker markups at the time. With Moore's Law failing in the PC market industry, breathing new life into laptops where a budget matters is perfectly feasible.

W520 - Solid Workhorse
A solid workstation from circa 2012 and quite capable in 2021 mainly because of it's Intel-i7, 4 core processor which is well suited for virtualization and 32GB RAM cap. Although not supported by Lenovo, it runs Windows 10 without errors except when working with a docking station (has trouble recognizing the AC adapter when using a docking station.) Under Win7, there was Lenovo/Intel software to throttle and overclock the CPU; This is still possible under a custom power plan in W10 settings and setting max CPU power to 100% with active cooling, otherwise leave at 99% or lower with passive cooling to stay within CPU limitations. The GPU is capable of running games from the 2010 era including MS Flight Sim X close to 90% of full settings, but insufficient for high graphic games of today. This machine was never meant for something light to carry even back in the day. It is meant to be a workhorse.
