I have been on eBay since 1999 when I lived in Los Angeles and needed extra money to afford--and eventually escape--the high cost of living there. I started by selling off my large baseball and other sports card collection that I had accumulated as a child (facilitated by my father working in grocery stores his whole life).

I eventually broadened the scope of my eBay sales into books and coins and paper money. Then my parents--who had been somewhat the generational repository of family antiques--took ill and passed and I bought and/or inherited their collection. In fact, I quit my job as a university professor to pursue the entrepreneurial opportunity this presented. I thought that this opportunity would last one year. I am now into the fifth year of pursuing this opportunity (and recently took on a storage unit full of antiques and collectibles of all sort that a recently retired and moved away friend amassed while travelling around the US to auctions in the 1990s and early 2000s).
