This 1995 version is the best modern production of this Jane Austen classic!
1 of 1 found this helpful Jane Austen's classic is a gem, of course. I have seen all versions of this 1813 novel produced since the 1940 classic with Greer Garson. However, this modern 1995 production by BBC has the happiest combination of an excellent cast (Jennifer Ehle, Colin Firth, Susannah Harker, Crispin Bonham-Carter and others)....The genius of Simon Langton's direction for drama and tension; the very memorable and stirring music by Carl Davis, and the visual splendor of the photography and historically accurate and stunning costumes! I cannot get enough of this production. What a treat. The particular copy of the DVDs I purchased, unfortunately, are not as crisp and bright as the versions I see on YouTube. Do not know why, but that has nothing to do with the original production which beats all other versions by far!
