A Carefully Machined Tool
I purchased the Veritas Log Scribe for standard carpentry finish work, not for working with logs, and I like the tool a lot. There are many situations where a compass won't do the job and there's a need for a scribe with articulating arms. Up to this point the best I could find was the FastCap - AccuScribe Pro, which has a wide articulation range, is lightweight, and reasonably priced (around $18). But it's made of plastic and I found that when reproducing complex shapes it would deform slightly, throwing off its accuracy.
The Veritas scribe is expensive and heavy, but it's all steel and brass, holds its adjustments well, and articulates in every way I've needed. For simple work I'll still reach for the AccuScribe, but for more challenging scribes, it will be the Veritas.

A Useful Guide to Improving Soil Health
The topic of soil mineralization can become highly technical, requiring a knowledge of chemistry---which I don't have. It can also be dumbed down, formulaic, offering one approach to solve all imbalances, with costly repercussions.
Steve Solomon explains soil chemistry in a way I was able to understand, and with remedial actions that make sense. If his approach is followed, I have no doubt that my garden will be healthier, bearing more nutrient dense vegetables and a larger harvest.

So portable!
2 of 2 found this helpful This thing is small! Slips right into your pocket, so great for hiking and camping, and just plain carrying anywhere. The RX100 has a nice sturdy feel, inspiring confidence that it can take an occasional bump. There are several automatic and semi-automatic settings, so you can use it right away without learning every feature. And there are many features, as well as a fully manual mode, so you can shoot under virtually any conditions. It also has a built in flash. The image quality is very good, and it can be set to shoot JPEG, RAW, or both simultaneously. It's a lot of fun.
