Nikon D200: Best camera I have ever owned
2 of 3 found this helpful The Nikon D200 is the best camera I have ever owned. Why? Let me count the ways...
First, I have numerous Nikkor manual focus lenses that I can not afford to replace with auto focus digital lenses, like a 105mm f2.5. The D200 allows the use of all AI-S lenses in aperture-priority and manual modes. Awesome. the newer digital lenses I can afford are way too slow (f3.5? please...). Why choose to use manual focus lenses in this digital age? One word-accuracy. Auto focus lenses have lots of trouble focusing on reflective surfaces, something I need to do regularly. I suppose you can turn your auto lens to manual, but why spend the money to have to do that?
Second, the D200 feels like my old film cameras. Weight is good. Same weight as my FM & FA with a motor drive. Substantial, sturdy.
Third, the D200's controls are very intuitive. Something hard to explain, but if you own a Mac, not a PC, you understand. The mirror lock up is a great feature if you do studio work. The ability to change ISO at the touch of a button is amazing, and great for indoor, low-light work. I don't fully understand how it works(like my microwave oven) but I use it all the time. The built-in flash works suprisingly well, and the ability to fine-tune it's intensity to fit the environment is a great feature.
Fourth, the battery life is almost endless. I only have Nikon batteries, and get about 800 - 1,000 shots per charge!
In conclusion, this camera works similarly to my trusty film Nikons. There was a short acclimation period to get use to the digital controls- they are not as simple as a dial on a manual film camera. But after about 2 weeks it is all second nature. Of course, there is always something new to learn, but that discovery is part of the attraction to a sophisticated camera.
I have owned a Nikon 8700, which was good, and still have a Panasonic Lumix to go to the beach with. But those cameras do not get me excited to capture images the way the D200 does.
I guess you could call me passionate about the camera.

perfect cable
Works as advertised, and added a lot of speed for my son's PS4, as opposed to the wifi connection. It is very flexible as compared with typical round cable, which made installing it even easier. Connectors seem to be a good quality.
