Works for me

This is my third Pimsleur product. I did the first 53 lessons of Mandarin, 22 lessons of Greek, and am currently on lesson 14 of French. Only with French did I have exposure prior to the lessons. If you do the lessons daily, they work. After about 15 lessons, you will be able to survive (have some basic verbs, know the name of hotels and restaurants, have basic directions, can negotiate prices, and count to 20). The focus on speaking means you come closer to the accent than would occur if you speak and read. As an American, if Pimsleur could let me function in Mandarin, it is easy to function in European languages.
