Inspired by a Spanish tale of a woman imprisoned in a tower by her jealous husband- Rosalía written, recorded and released “El Mal Querer” is divided into 11 chapters that follows this character’s imprisonment and liberation from her abusive lover. It’s honestly one of the most refreshing and spectacular albums I have heard of this decade. I love it with all my heart. The lyrics, the production... sickening. Pablo Diaz-Reixa a.k.a El Guincho puts his magic on this record. He’s the one responsible for producing this record like a motherfucking boss. Shout out to him. Also- The fact that they modernized an old traditional sound such as Flamenco mind boggles me. A dynamic duo tbh. No one is doing what they’re doing. And Rosalía’s voice is so freaking captivating and even haunting. There’s not one flaw on this album for me. 100% recommend for everyone to give this a listen. Aside from the album itself, this vinyl press is one of my favorites within my collection. The sleeve, the booklet insert and the vinyl record are all in super high quality. The packaging is seriously so beautiful. Shout out to the artist who captured and edited these gorgeous images- Filip Custic. He deserves love and recognition as well for retelling Rosalía’s words within these gorgeous pictures. Honestly, they bring her lyrics to life. Another seriously talented artist. To conclude this review, Rosalía is a wicked woman with wicked talent. There is not one bad song she has. And if you love this album then you’ll love her debut “Los Angeles”. Her voice is seriously everything. Check out her singles “Con Altura” and “Aute Cuture”!! Her collaborations with J.Balvin (“Brillo”) and James Blake (“Barefoot in the Park”) are also a must-listen. I can go on forever about this woman. But I’ll just end things here by saying one day she’ll be recognized properly for her work and her talents celebrated. She deserves nothing but endless love.
