Works with 2016 Q5 w/ AMI (no MMI w/ GPS) both power and controls
2 of 2 found this helpful Bought this for use in 2016 Audi Q5 which came with a new lighting cable connector for the AMI interface which works great with my iPhone 6s. However I have a 30-pin Tune2Air Bluetooth adapter I was using in my old 2012 Audi A4 to connect wirelessly and unfortunately sold that AMI cable with the car.
Note that the model number is important as is the colour of the grommet on the cable (this is the blue cable, but there is also white and possibly others..). There are also other cheaper non-OEM cables that may allow you to connect an iPod/iPhone and will play sound, but will not pass through power to charge the device and/or will not allow control of the device via the dash/wheel controls.
This blue grommeted cable was the same that came with my 2012 A4 so did everything I needed. It charges an iPhone 4 w/ the 30-pin connector and allows AMI control of it, therefore it was able to power my Tune2Air Bluetooth adapter, now making it wireless again.
Be careful trying to save money on knock-offs as there are many varieties of these cables. So do your research on compatibility between the year of your car, the generation of your AMI/MMI, the cable model no. and the device you're connecting. There are forums out there with people discussing this.
