Twenty-three Years in the Russian Prison Camps
After entering Russia as a Byzantine Catholic missionary after the Revolution, Rev. Walter Ciszek, S.J., a Pennsylvania native, was arrested as a spy. He was held in solitary confinement in Moscow's Lubianka prison for five years. Finally cracking under the pressure of starvation and constant interrogations, he "confessed" to being a spy for the Vatican and was sentenced to hard labor in the frozen wasteland of Siberia. After 23 years of misery, suffering from extreme cold and starvation, living among hardened criminals who would kill in a heartbeat, Father Walter was released and eventually swapped with two Russian prisoners. Returning to the U.S. in 1963, he spent the rest of his life teaching at Fordham University, giving spiritual direction, and writing. "With God in Russia" is the detailed story of his youth, vocation to the priesthood, his burning desire to go to Russia as a missionary, years of imprisonment, and eventual release. "He Leadeth Me," Father Walter's second book, tells the same story but from a more spiritual perspective. Surrendering to God's will in all things and relying completely on God's providence, Father Walter survived the extreme conditions in the Russian prison system and found the strength to minister to Catholics who had no access to priests or the sacraments due to the atheistic Communist government having outlawed the practice of religion. For anyone who has struggled with the problem of evil, Father Walter's story will inspire you with the incredble strength of the human spirit in the face of profound physical and spiritual challenges. Father Walter Ciszek has been declared a Servant of God by the Catholic Church.

Uniquely personal account of authentic Catholic hermit spirituality
A personal and insightful view of the interior life lived by a French Cistercian monk in silence and solitude. Simple yet uplifting and biblically based, this intensely personal account of the hermit life provides precious advice for those seeking to do the same.

Beautiful cards at a great price
The cards are awesome, large but not too, the flowery envelopes are lovely, and the box has the different cards shown on the back (birthday, anniversary, blank, etc.) and keeps the cards and envelopes separately organized. A great value!
