Like a mature Dr. Who
This series is largely unknown in the US, but created by Terry Nation, the man behind Dr. Who's Daleks, it has a similar feel to to 1970s Dr. Who, though it is grittier and grimmer. Filmed after Star Wars came out, it also features a group of rebels fighting against a ruthless authoritarian empire (the Federation). It is crucial to watch the first season, but frankly the show improves in the 2nd and 3rd seasons, as they really start to flesh out the characters. Special effects do not rise above that of old-school Dr. Who, but the dialogue is very sharp and funny.
Shows like Firefly can trace their spirit back to this series, which though a bit formulaic, is quite solid, with about 80% of the episodes being quite good (roughly the ratio of classic Dr. Who). Though there is a slight arc, in terms of that some characters come and go, the episodes are pretty stand-alone.
I am a big fan of classic Dr. Who, and this series ranks right up there with it.

Alvin Fernald - somewhat dated, but still a joy
Alvin Fernald Superweasel has charm particularly due to the low stakes of the story and the believability of the main character. This is Kick-ass without the violence.

Solid and inexepensive
For the price I paid, buying a 4-pack was a good bargain. They are well-made and solid and the shipper ensured that they were well-packaged to prevent from breakage.
