Pretty Incredible!
I’ve had this little puppy for one week now and I can’t believe how nice and even my lawn looks.And the best part is I didn’t have to do the work to keep it neat myself. Instead the little robot did it. Nearly to perfection.
Don’t get me wrong though. It was a ton of work to lay down the boundary wire. I put down about 450 ft of wire. It took hours. First I tried laying the wire on top of the ground. But after reading other reviews about how the mower can tear up its own wire, I decided to bury it. I carefully mapped out where I wanted the wire to go and then I got a spade and started opening the earth 6 inches at a time. After I had maybe 20 feet done, I’d poke the wire into the slit I’d made and use the pins to secure it. Slow going for sure. I live in the south east. It had been raining so the ground was soft which helped. Still it was tough work for an old guy. Anybody really. Stuck my hand in a nest of fire ants accidentally once but that was the worst of it. I can’t imagine trying to do the burying in say, rocky New England soil, so good luck you guys in New Hampshire and Maine! Looking back it would have been easier to have bought a small trencher and used it for the digging. Or hired a crew but that probably would have cost more than my model 147. There was also the pressure of thinking, what if I do all this work and don’t get the green light when I feed the wire into the charger? But the wire process was successful and the green light came on. The robot has been running flawlessly ever since. I’m already planning on expanding the boundary wire to the front yard. When I do I’ll try the trencher method for sure.
Couple of other things: I have landscaping bricks around a flower bed, a rosebush and a tree within the wire. I was too tired to lollipop them with the wire so I counted on the mower bouncing off of them which it did but it also scattered the bricks around in a tank-like maneuver. I would up buttressing the bricks with some bamboo sticks I cut and hammered in behind the bricks and that worked well. I got the app going finally. It helps if your charging station is close to where your wifi is located in your house. The app shows how many bars of connection you have to the machine so sometimes as it roams around you lose connection. If you have not bars when the mower is at the station that will be a problem. Once the app is up and running it works great! Make sure you have the latest version of software on your mower!
Lastly, a word about the help line that worx offers. The people on the help line are friendly, helpful and polite. You can't find a nicer bunch than the crew up in North Carolina. You will be well supported by people who like their jobs.
So bottom line: The mower is working great (after one week)! Be prepared to do some work to get the wire in place. Maybe try using a trencher or hire the job out. The app is fun and easy to use. Put the charging station close to the room where the wifi router is located. Sell your old riding mower now before its too late because sooner or later everyone is gonna go to robot mowers aHope you all have a good experience with your robot mowers!
