The Classicest of Classic Plastic.
MPCs Pontiac Fiero was one of the coolest Kits in the 80s, this one was stamped 1984, the very Year the real Car came out. MPC covered a lot of details for it, nothing short of having opening Doors, it had an opening Hood, Trunk and 2 Full Engines. The Car on the Box Top is the 1985 Car, with the Flag Style Alloy Wheels, but, No Sunroof. You can build a base 2M4 or attempt an SE. There are 2 Engines that come with the Kit, the GM 2.5L Iron Duke I4 mated to the 4 Speed Muncie Manual Transmission. There's a GM 2.8L V6, but, this one's an odd one. It's a Gen 1 2.8L as noted by the Single Rochester 4 Barrel Carb. The V6 that did later end up in the Fiero was a MPFI 2.8L GM V6 with a special Intake Plenum. That Engine was seen on the SEs and the Formula. It also became the standard Engine in the Fiero for the remainder of it's Production Life. That Engine had a Getrag 5 Speed Manual Transmission. The Gen 1 V6 is mated to the same Kit supplied 4 Speed Muncie Manual. Full Suspension detail is provided for the Front and Rear. You get Disc Brake Detail as well. You get 4 BF Goodrich Radial T/A Tires even though the real Car didn't. You do get 2 styles of Alloy Wheels with the Car. The Interior is very well detailed with Instrument Pod, Gear Lever, 2 Seat Options (stock and Custom). The Interior Tub is very well detailed but, My example suffered from a Mold Issue on the Instrument Pod of a Big sink hole. The Clear Parts are smoke tinted - great for the Rear Window and Sunroof, but, incorrect for the Windshield. I think that was done since MPC used the Prototype as a base and it did have a Dark Tinted Windshield. The Black Mold and Silver Mold Kits of this Car came with Clear Clear Parts :) - There's a Clear Red Tail Light Strip, but, You will need to carefully Paint this to make the Tail Lights appear convincing. There are Parts as well to show the Fiero with it's Headlights exposed. The Trunk area is full of Detail and even comes with a Spare Tire. The Engine Bay is well detailed, if a little spartan, but, once either Engine is installed, You don't worry about it too much. A complete Exhaust System is also provided. There are some Optional Custom Parts, but, they look a bit tacky, so, You can leave em in a spares Bin, or, if You are curious, Build Your Car with them - one of the Custom Parts is a Snorkel, it's interesting because this was indeed used on the Indy Pace Car version, and, later seen on the 86 GT. Test fitting of the Car shows it to have a very good Front and Rear Ride Height. There are some Decals to help Build the Custom version, and, others to Build the Stock versions. Fit is very Good overall, but, some work is needed to get an ideal fit. You will benefit from Test Fitting as well. The Body in My example was perfect!!, No warping. The Tires are very nice if not a tad aggressive, You could search for After Market Tires if You felt Your example was deserving of it. The Instructions are very clear and concise, full Painting Instructions are called out as well, but, in Letter form - AMT would change this process using actual Names for the Paint Colours. There's a Chrome Tree that will need it's Chrome stripped since NO Fieros ever had any. You could use Chrome Silver Paint or BMF for any areas that required that specific look, Mirrors for example. The Kit is Rare, and, what few examples are out there aren't cheap, but, if You like Me are lucky to get one, You'll not regret it.

Classic Kit, Fun and Easy to Build.
1 of 2 found this helpful Monogram Kit from 1986, Molded in Red Plastic with Chrome Parts and Clear along with Scale Goodyear Eagle Racing Slicks, Decals are also included to Build the #25 Car that was Driven by Tim Richmond, full and easy to understand instructions are also included. This Kit is easy to build but does have a few quirks which would make it a bit of a challenge for Younger or Inexperienced Builders. Paint, Glues (of varying types), Masking Tape and Putties will be needed for the completion of the Kit. Given it's age though, not a lot of Putty will be needed, a testament to how well it was made by Monogram. The Decals are very good also despite their Age and go on without the need of any solvents, however, some might consider their use for the Decals on the Rear Fenders to help them settle. The Instructions are very well detailed and not difficult to understand, Paint Colours are explained with small Letters signifying which Colour is used and where, but, Experienced Builders can opt to build their Car with a little more Detail. There are Chrome Parts but, again Experienced Builders will find it's more accurate to remove (strip) the Chrome and Paint certain Parts in Metalizer Paints. The Car shown on the Box has Chrome Wheels, but, Tim never Drove any Car with them - the wheels were Black. The Fit is good but some warping is expected on the Chassis Pan and Cage, boiling Water will be needed to help fix the Warps - an easy Job to do. The Body is perfectly executed by Monogram and only needs minimal Cleanup. The Clear Parts are very nice as well but, if loose in the Bag a good check for scratches will be needed - repairing the Clear Parts can be a little time consuming, but, there are plenty of Tips on how to do this. The rest of the Kit will need a fair amount of Cleanup, sanding etc, but, that doesn't take very long to do. CA Glues (Super) and some Liquids are considered ideal for Construction - CAs for major Assemblies like Suspension and the Cage, scraping Paint off Parts to be Glued is always preferred. Spray Paints can be used to Paint the Entire Car or select Parts. Airbrushing can also be done to speed up the Build. In case there are any issues with the Decals, there are plenty of sites that offer After Market ones. Do I recommend this Kit?, absolutely!, it's a Good, Fun build and once you've built one, any others are easier as you go along. Once completed, the Kit makes for a very good Scale example of a Famous Race Car.
