You Get What You Pay For
Although it was inexpensive, the quality was lacking. It weighed more than the OEM piston, there was casting flashing in critical places and since the installation and reassembly of the chainsaw was extensive, I did not use the piston and have since returned it.
Before attempting to install the carb, I took the metering and fuel pump covers off to examine things inside. I had expected it to be dry but there was some type of solvent smelling stuff in both areas. It didn’t smell like oil or fuel exactly but I used carb cleaner to get rid of it and to ensure all the internal ports were open. I did not adjust the L & H jets at this time.
Installation – Although it was sold as a direct replacement and the Poulan P2375 was listed in the ad, it did take some thought and "adjustments". First off the carb gasket was not useable as it did not cover the impulse opening in the carb mounting adapter. The old gasket had to be used. Next the primer hose inlet interfered with the throttle linkage and had to be bent out of the way slightly (in toward the carb body) and the throttle linkage itself needed bending the other way. The choke linkage also needed some slight tinkering to function properly. Once installed the throttle & choke operation felt normal.
Starting – At first, I wanted to see if it would start without adjusting the jets. It didn’t; I was a pullin’ pro for a while. However once I adjusted the L jet in to ¾ turn, the saw jumped to life, reved up and idled well. Would I recommend? Yes with understanding it's NOT a direct replacement for the OEM Zama carb. Does it work on the saw; yes. A good value? Yes, after taking off the value of the other items in the kit, the carburetor alone cost roughly $4.00.
