"DETOUR" kept my attention throughout
Excellent cinematography, script & direction of the protagonist TYE SHERIDAN. It's done well, with details that keep viewers like me on his tail, like a bloodhound who's strongly on the scent of something he wants! Fine film to watch with friends, or re-watch in spare time. Angles & acting of SHERIDAN are well followed by the camera. Only lacks a romantic scene in the script, as most movies like this have.

Great LGBT Parental-Acceptance acting/scripted!
1 of 1 found this helpful Director carried film a bit heavy on the issue at hand, which is good, but a bit of comic relief is always nice. Has "extra footage" of cast/director interviews sharing their opinions/roles. 1 female actors in the movie has a gay son in real life, so he & his friends enjoyed watching this movie's content. Great movie for no-so-accepting parents of LGBT (college students, in this case)--especially for latino, american (or any ethnicity) parents! The parents speak/act completely as if their sons are in a heterosexual relationship...as if the gay part is a total non-issue:) Both guys are cute; 1 latino, 1 blonde/white. Great chemistry given the fact that they began acting a day after meeting on set. 50 college-age boys auditioned, but these 2 where quickly selected as best for their roles, according to director..

What producer isn't trying to get 22yo actor LUCAS HEDGES signed on to star in their film today?! Lucas made an exception to his own rule & agreed to lead this film despite his father Director Peter Hedges in charge on set. Lucas says he just liked this script so much, he had to take the roll, but otherwise does not work with his father in this capacity. As a professional street drug addict, Lucas' mom (JULIA ROBERTS) works closely with him throughout this unique film with a comical script, but serious subject. Other than Roberts & Hedges, all other rolls are significantly smaller & secondary to these top 2. Lucas has played gay character rolls in several major movies lately (LadyBird & Boy Erased), roles considered today to be controversial for straight actors to portray. Therefore Lucas has openly admitted his personal sexual identity "on a spectrum" he learned of in 6th grade, stating he's NOT completely gay, NOT totally straight, and NOT necessarily bi-sexual. He does a superb job as an addict who knows every trick in the book. Post-production led to J.Roberts & L.Hedges becoming personally very close despite her busy life with her own family.
