Expanding Musical Range for Led Zepplin
I believe that the initial critical reviews for Led Zepplin III were not very good, and compared to the monster hits in Led Zepplin IV...I would have to say that I agree, initially. But after listening to the album five times in a row it kind of gets to you. Not a bad album by any means but it takes getting used to. It shows Page and Plant's expanding musical range. Side one is the weaker of two sides, with the pulse pounding "Immigrant Song" opening it, then it sort of "falls down" to a more mellower and slower "rythm and bluesy" pace. I found side two to be the highlight of the album with the beautiful "That's the Way" and the folk-traditional "Gallows Pole" to be gems Definitiely a must for the Led Zepplin fan!
Pushkin Vertigo: The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada (2015, Paperback)

Great Puzzler for those who enjoy "locked-room" mysteries!!!
Brilliant 'locked-room" mystery -- "ala" the Golden Age of Crime Fiction. Shades of John Dickson Carr and Ellery Queen. Maybe without the flavor of the 1930s or 1940s but probably one of the most ingenious "puzzles" I have ever read. It may be a little off-putting, since there is little atmosphere, but the mystery is so compelling and the solution so marvelous and original -- I rate this next to Carr's "Three Coffins" and "Crooked Hinge" as one of the greatest puzzlers in all of detective fiction....
The Book of Stratagems : Tactics for Triumph and Survival by Harro Von Senger (1

Possibly the best written analysis of the 36 Stratagems ( in English ! )
This is one of the best written books on the 36 Stratagems. Taken with examples from Chinese history -- well researched and extremely well written. You can tell this was a labor of love by the author. I loaned my original copy to my father 20 years ago and was looking high and low to find this hard to get book ! Luckily I found it on eBay....The only drawback is that it lists only the first 18 stratagems.
