CHARDIN's Work Well Represented!!
Saw this book at an artist friends and HAD to get my own. I do portraits, but I LOVE representational still life. Chardin is the BEST - it looks so REAL...only BETTER! Some books do not have true colors, etc. this one is very good. Lots of info about the artist and his work too.

Get to Know the General
I bought this book for my husband because he likes to read the actual words and thoughts of historic people instead of being "told" by history scholars what to think about history's giants and how they thought. My husband is enjoying this book immensely, reading the exact words and thoughts of Washington and "getting into his head". You can't get any closer to Washington than by reading his diaries. I am looking forward to reading it too when my husband is done.

Narrow Scope, But Very Nice
The book is really more the photographer James Christopher's memoirs (illustrated with his personal collection of candid photos)of Liz than a true circumspect illustrated biography. Mr. Christopher's career as a celebrity photographer luckily crossed paths with Ms. Taylor's career early on and then he had the good fortune and reputation to keep him crossing her path for most of her career. The result is a collection of pretty amazing shots that I have never seen anywhere else - and that is the strength of the book. It's weakness lies in that we only get litle "islands" of her life - whenever Christopher was called in to photograph her on movie sets or at modeling sessions. I was hoping more for the "nuts and bolts" of her private life in casual pictures. The book is VERY heavy in "off camera" shots from GIANT, CLEOPATRA and RAINTREE COUNTY. I guess I was looking more for "the new Mrs. Hilton on her honeymoon or the homewrecker Liz at the picnic table with Debbie and Eddie Fisher or the mother Liz rocking her babies - in street clothes with less than perfect make up". If you just love Liz regardless, this is a beautiful book and will not disappoint, however.
