Basic needs met
I don’t require much; bells and whistles aren’t necessary. This little watch meets my simple little needs and doesn’t break the budget.

Spend the money for this book; it's well worth it!
So often we as teachers complain that we're just not reaching all of our kids... why don't they learn, etc., etc. A lot of them haven't been fortunate enough to have experiencially rich backgrounds, and when combined with learning English as a second language, it's really tough for them. SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) offers practical strategies for reaching kids with high quality instruction. Some of it is common sense; other ideas were new to me. The program should be viewed as a framework as opposed to a 'reform effort'. If you can learn to consistently implement these eight features of the program into your every day teaching, you'll be surprised at how much more your students will retain from lesson to lesson. Try it; you'll be glad you did. It'll revolutionize the way you teach and the way you see your students by making you much more sensitive and aware of their lack of background knowledge. Many school districts are embracing SIOP as a new style of teaching, and generally there has been a lot of support for those wanting the training. If you have not yet had the training, or you've found there's no funding or no interest in the chain of command, then buying this book will help give you an idea as to what to expect and how to implement. It will not have been a waste of your hard earned money or time. In my 28 years in the classroom, this is one of the few approaches that I've noticed REALLY makes a difference.
