It will do in a pinch
7 of 7 found this helpful A "poor man's" telephoto that is reasonably sharp except at full 400 mm. Workable range is 200 to about 375mm before focus falls apart. It seems to be a bit sharper than the newer 200 to 500 mm which I also own and suffers considerably less lens flare. Chrmoatic aberation is tolerable. Works well on my D700. Don't expect it to equal a multi $1000K lens. If you need 400mm look for a good used prime.

D600 -- get the shutter fixed and you have a great camera
8 of 8 found this helpful The High Iso performance of this camera is fantastic -- better than my D3s but with more resolution. Much has been written about the 39 focus points but I generally only use a single focus point and had no issues in low light. Image quality is wonderful. I have shot football under the lights, hockey, lacrosse and nature with this camera. After getting the shutter replaced right away I have had no oil spot issues. Battery life is great and it does have a focus motor which makes it compatible with lots of lenses. Dynamic range is very good. Don't be afraid to buy this camera used -- as long as it is not grey market Nikon will replace the shutter.

Tried and True
A simple classic multi-volt megger. No fancy software or LED glitz but it is industrially accurate and rugged. Got mine on a steal.
