Outstanding War History, Gripping Account of Stalingrad
This is the real story of the Russian sniper Vassili Zaitsev, told in his own words. The original Russian version dates from 1957 and was published by a Soviet military press in Vladivostok. Included in the appendices is a short version of the book that Zaitsev dictated to reporters on the scene in Stalingrad, during the battle. The 1957 version is expanded with the more contemplative, older Zaitsev providing more detail and more description of the different personalities and events. The chaos of this battle and the Russians poor strategy in the beginning , which was to just pour men into the meat grinder, makes for
an astonishing read, even for the hardened reader of WW2 histories. The average life expectancy of a Russian soldier during the first few weeks of the battle was 24 hours !!! Zaitsev was not a sniper at the beginning but was a messenger for a rifle company. He had never shot with a telescopic site and never even seen one in use. He was amazed when he saw a fellow Russian soldier take out a Nazi machine gunner with a few well-aimed shots with a sniper rifle. Zaitsev tried to get into the sniper unit and was turned down at his first request, he was only made a sniper when his commanding officer saw him
shoot some machine gunners at 600 yards, using a rifle with ordinary open sights. Then he was assigned to follow a trained sniper around for a few days and that was the only specific training he had. Zaitsev was a book-keeper in the Pacific Fleet based at Vladivostok. He volunteered to fight at Stalingrad and was part of a small contingent of sailors (including at least one fellow book-keeper) who were despatched to Stalingrad along with hundreds of thousands of other soviet soldiers.
As for the German super-sniper that Zaitsev battled with, and whether or not this story is true, please see the following link , it is Zaitsev himself being interviewed years after the battle, on the Mamayev Hill site.

best shaving cream out there and cleans out of razor easily
this is a very superior shaving cream, for a fast shave, easy shave, no nicks or cuts,
very smooth, also it easily rinses out of the razor. I rate this the best I have ever tried and
I have tried them all. It is expensive but it should not be, because in Europe it is
relatively cheap, also in Canada, in the US it costs a lot more. Worth it if your time means something to you and you don't want nicks from shaving.
