Great little JBOD
2 of 2 found this helpful for jbod usb3 external you cant go wrong with this..
full usb3 speed....(using ssd it maxes out the usb3 bus.. with a normal spinning disk it maxes the drive..and on multi disk access it will max out the drives up to the usb3 bus limit)... drive information and smart status is properly conveyed... bottom line is it works exactly as i think it should...
individual power control for each drive(and 1 for the main power)so you don't have to power down the whole device nor do you have to hot plug your drives... there is a little pinhole green light to indicate power to the corresponding bay(and 1 for main)
for 2.5 drives you have to remove a rail from one side of the tray(there are no instructions in the box nor are there any on the site had to figure this one out when the tray wouldn't fit into the tower but they just snap on and off.. but id recommend an adapter rather then direct 2.5 installation as the trays fit much better(more snug) with the rails)... the trays are plastic but sturdy (i don't feel worried that i will break them)there is a blue light indicating device power and a green one that flashes at a regular rate(~2hz) indicating drive activity
the fans are silent even on the highest setting(any spinning drives in there will likely be louder then the fans).... the fans seem to be automatic(thermal controlled speed) and the switch seems to set the range(i just leave it on high...may as well have the best airflow since its silent) the fans also turn off automatically when no drives are powered on(except the power supply fan which turns on and off with the main power.. not sure but it might have a thermal speed control too)
plug and play so i forgive the lack of instructions
this is the cheapest device like this that i have found on the market.. many have fewer drives without individual power control for higher costs
