Simply Excellent
The Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens is a MONSTER!! Although some photographers consider it to be a waste when attached to a DX format camera, due to the fact that the 1.5x cropping factor screws up the focal length (bumps it up from 12-24 mm to 21-38 mm) and causes the lens to lose some of its wide viewing angle, the picture quality is still insanely clear.
If you are looking for an ultra sharp, wide angle lens (ultra-wide on an FX-format Nikon camera, such as the D810) that is capable of capturing minuscule details your eyes cannot see (especially if you intend on doing night photography) and feels (like) solid (photography gold), then this is definitely the go-to lens. Just be aware that this lens is extremely heavy compared to other lenses (like the Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II lens), weighing in at 1kg or 2.2 lbs on its own.
