Not Crazy Slippery
Everyone talks about how slippery this mat is. It’s got some slip to it that I’m sure will wear down as advertised, but mostly I feel this mat is making me more aware of proper weight distribution in poses.
I don’t do hot yoga and, in fact, I’m not particularly good at yoga at all. But I’ve been practicing for a year now and after using this mat for the last week I don’t want to use any other. For anyone contemplating, “how can it be much different than my 6mm $25 Gaiam mat;” it is. It’s completely different.
It’s heavy, so I don’t want to lug it anywhere but my basement. It’s not break your back heavy, but it’s noticeably heavier if you roll your Manduka up and immediately roll another mat.
It’s pricey, but so is a Cadillac. The $25 Gaiam 6mm is fine. Upon laying your hands on the mat you don’t will not become the best yogi in town nor feel a sense of euphoria take over your body. But it’s a quality product for which you are knowing paying a premium price.
85’ vs Normal Length. I bought this for the extra length. I’m only 5’10 but my face would always hang off the front of my mat in low plank. The extra length is just something I wanted and it was worth it to me.
In conclusion, the people saying it’s an ice rink are over dramatic or they sweat like Shaq at the free throw line doing hot yoga and would slip on a yoga mat covered in rock salt. This mat makes me more aware of my body weight distribution and allows me to truly engage all the muscles in poses because of it.
If you have spent a few weeks contemplating spending the money on this mat you should probably get it.
