Fantastic
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this camera for my daughter, to keep her from stealing my D5000. Originally I wanted a D40, but none were available. Playing with it now it's fantastic. Smaller than the D5000. Easier to manage. GREAT pictures. (I bought her the 18-55 VR lens to go with it.)
It's really a tough decision. The D40 is just so simple and easy to use. Ken was right at www.kenrockwell.com about the D40. If you can find one, BUT IT! If not, then step up to the D5000.
The D5000 is a better camera. But it's bigger, bulkier, and heavier. And 99% of the time you won't see a real difference in the photos.
