1st one had problems after five years of use.
Bought a second one after using the first one for five years. The first one started blanking out on high humidity days. I've moved it inside and it continues to work. I think I replaced the battery twice in the five years. The sensor is sensitive to direct sunlight and will read high. The sensor is located in the white battery housing near the right edge of the display and sticks down about 3/16". I have my thermometer in an east window, so the sun hits the sensor in the morning and through about noon. The reading would be 10-20 deg high, I didn't really mind as I was interested more in low readings. But when I put the replacement up I cut an aluminum can and using about a 1" square to create a sunshield around that corner. I used double sided tape to hold it in place. It seems to have helped a lot, it may still be reading 2-5 degrees high but I'm not sure. The shield is slightly visible through the display but doesn't affect reading the display. On cold days the reading seems to be 1-2 deg high, which I think is due to a boundary layer of warmer air at the windows. The min reading would be 33-34 but I'd have frost or dew ice on car windows indicating that it had gotten down to freezing.
The display is easy to read in daylight, but needs some sort of lighting to read at night. Until the battery starts dying the display is always crisp and readable. There are two buttons on the battery case hidden by the mount plate that are used to set the time for the min/max readings. The time must be set each time a battery is put in. For an electronic device to survive outside for 5 years only needing a battery every couple of years at a price of $12 is a very good value imho.

Simple, cheap and so far reliable
Battery operated, inside and outside temperature in Fahrenheit. Has a clock mode. I've had it for about 3 months and have never turned it off and haven't had to replace the batteries yet. Simple, cheap and so far reliable. Temperature seems to be accurate.

Lens protection
Bought this primarily to protect the automatic lens shutter of a sony camcorder. Past cameras with such shutters have failed due to damage or contamination and I wanted to prevent that.
