Close range only.
0 of 2 found this helpful I had read reviews on Amazon indicating bad symptoms, but I assumed Logitech would have fixed those problems. When I first tested it a distance of about 15' from my HTPC with an unobstructed path for the RF link to the USB receiver, I did intermittently experience all those symptoms and more. We are talking about missed keystrokes, spurious key events, garbled events, delayed events. I also experienced occasional lockup of the mouse lasting many seconds. Since I brought it to my desktop computer (my intent all along) with the USB receiver sitting within a couple feet of the devices, it has worked flawlessly.
The odd thing is that I also have a Logitech K400r wireless keyboard with builtin touchpad. At the same distance for which the MK550 is unreliable, it works reliably and consistently, and it can use the very same receiver with which the MK550 was giving trouble. So the trouble is not with the USB dongle. Apparently, the radios for the MK550 are more susceptible to interference. (I also have many other wireless USB devices which do not suffer from interference the way the MK550 does.) So I would definitely advise against trying to use this product from a distance. It is OK in a desktop situation such as I am using now; but it is probably best to locate the USB receiver near by on the desktop. I.e., plugging it into a USB port on the back panel of a PC is probably a bad idea. Now I know why that USB A-to-A extension cord was included in the box. (I did not need it because I already had a hub on my desk top.)

Effective, good price.
Big improvement on my decades old one. Connection through cigarette lighter socket not reliable.

Inflexible with respect to H.264 format.
16 of 28 found this helpful I got it because cheaper Web cams were giving me motion blur. The problem is that they send uncompressed video over USB 2.0, and that won't cut it. However, with the H.264 encoding which this camera can do on the device side, it is possible to send very high quality video over USB 2.0. Unfortunately, the only formats the camera supports in H.264 mode are 1080p and 720p. Since I did not need widescreen but could use a higher frame rate, I was hoping I could get a higher frame rate with 920x720. No dice. You can get a wide variety of other formats using it in Motion JPEG mode, but then you are stuck with the limitations of USB 2.0 throughput. I have communicated with the Logitech support folks, and apparently Logitech is not interested in making it more flexible with respect to the formats it will encode with H.264. I will have to live with 720p at 30 frames per second.
