Beware - NOT compatible with HP Z420
5 of 5 found this helpful The HP Z420 only supports UNBUFFERED DDR3-1600 ECC UDIMMs
Specifically, the HP Z420 does NOT support "Registered" ECC DDR3 memory, which this product is described as.
A-Tech does offer Unbuffered DDR3-1600 ECC DIMMs, but at a much higher price.
Note: The Intel CPU used by the HP Z420 is capable of supporting Registered ECC DIMMs, but HP does not officially support these types of memory in the HP Z420 BIOS.
If you are going to advertise vendor-model-compatible memory, it should be near-equivalent to the vendor's own models. "Unbuffered" ECC memory is NOT the same as "Registered" ECC memory.
These A-Tech models are also advertised as PC3-8500 ... which is slower than the standard HP Z420 memory of PC3-12800.

Low cost upgrade to 12-core/24 threads 2.7+ GHz performance if supported by your motherboard.
Works as documented. 12-core with 2 hyperthreads per core. I installed the CPU in a HP Z420 workstation with a version 2 motherboard that supports the Ivy Bridge-EP processors along with PCIe 3.0 slots.
Just remember to get some thermal paste to re-install your CPU cooler. I cleaned the CPU and cooler base with 90% rubbing alcohol, and then applied fresh thermal paste when installing the cooler. CPU runs fine with stock HP Z420 cooler.
Double-check your motherboard specs and install the latest firmware before upgrading the CPU. Some early Sandy Bridge motherboards may not support this newer Ivy Bridge CPU ... or they need updated BIOS.
