Compelling Analysis of the State of our Democracy
The book sets out and substantiates the central premise that the 'guardrails' of our democracy are withering. The authors overlay historical context with the present. Their argument is compelling.
Where the book fails, as (almost) every such analysis does, is describing 'the way forward' ...i.e. what we can do to change things. Historians and political scientists are evaluators and analysts, not policy wonks.
That does not change my view that this is an excellent book. Anyone who has concerns about the present state of affairs in our democracy, esp. post 2106, should read it. And then think what she/he can do to change things.
