Jaguar Special Edition by Jaguar EDT Spray 1 oz / 30 ml EDT FOR MEN

If you like Drakkar Noir (or want to, but can't)...
I couldn't find out a lot about this fragrance, and so it was a blind buy for me. Here are the fragrance notes listed on Parfumo: Top Notes: Bergamot, Galbanum, Grapefruit, Mint Heart Notes Heart Notes: Clove, Caraway, Lavender, Nutmeg Base Notes Base Notes: Oakmoss, Musky notes, Sandalwood, Cedar On my skin, it's very much in the Drakkar Noir camp. Fits right in with Taxi, Lomani pour Homme, etc., but Jaguar SE is, on my skin, easily the best *fragrance* of all those. A lot like Duc de Vervins by Houbigant, but much less dry, much fresher. (Maybe it's like a combination of Duc de Vervins and New West Skinscent?) I'm not a big fan of Drakkar Noir and its ilk, especially the sweeter ones like al-Rehab's Dakar, but I'm glad to have the Jaguar.

Meh... Worth the $10, but probably no more
I'm really on the fence about this one. It's marginally worth the $10 I paid for it. And to be fair, I've bought two of them, both black—one with black stitching, one with red—so obviously I can't be too critical. Not if I judge this item based on its price. Overall, I'm satisfied. It looks good. It looks like it's pictured. All the descriptors in the listing are accurate—except maybe the claim that it's "high quality genuine leather." Is it genuine leather? I don't really know. Maybe, maybe not. High quality? Uh, no. Just, no. It looks like it may—or may not, who knows?—fall apart eventually. Look, it's a ten dollar strap, and it's selling for ten dollars. Expect that level of quality and you'll probably be satisfied.

A soapy ever-so-green classic, and close to the original version...
This is the 4th edition of the fragrance, produced, roughly, from 1996 to 2002. Its run seems to have predated the significant reformulation that occurred with the 5th edition (it's been in the 6th edition for a few years now, in the 2010s. Since the turn-of-the-millennium reformulation (just after this 4th edition), its reputation has sloped downward, with more and more complaints about that reformulation and the other significant one since then. I can't speak to that myself, as this 4th edition is the latest version I have. I also have a few examples of the 1st (1973 to c.1984) and 2nd (c.1984 to 1992). Judging solely from my samples, the 1st and 2nd editions are virtually indistinguishable from one another. My understanding is that the 3rd edition is very close to the 2nd. My 4th editions are pretty close to my 2nd editions, but opening even a little more brightly, with a little more citrus and lavender. This isn't really surprising, as older versions of anything generally have lost more top notes. For most of the drydown, the 4ths and 2nds are close, though the 4ths have a somewhat synthetic quality in a side-by-side comparison. After about 10 hours, a dirtier base of vetiver and tobacco emerges in the 4ths, and this (along with the more-present top notes and likely lower price tag) is the reason to get this version. After a few more hours, the 4ths have faded away, but that's a heckuva long-lasting fragrance. (For what it's worth, my 2nds remain a detectable skin scent for about 36 hours. I have nothing else that comes even close to that sort of longevity.) What I haven't said yet is that the 4th edition is still an amazingly beautiful soapy, almost buttery green fragrance. Full disclosure, I've never heard a single compliment when wearing this, but what do I care? I don't need compliments to make me happy. Paco does that for me by itself. In my top 10 (with my 1st and 2nd editions in my top 5). If you find a good deal on it, just buy it already.
