Most scopes are judged by how clear the sight picture is and how much you can see. Rifle accuracy depends on the scope as well.
5 of 5 found this helpful There are quite a few scopes in the $200-$250 price range. Vortex is trying to make the best product in this range. Due to a recent test of several comparable scopes, Vortex Diamondback tested #1. The test was run by an accomplished hunter with military experience and a fine rifle with lots of match ammunition to burn. After all, what really counts is accuracy and clarity, firing your rifle with your scope, at your target. I have been shopping for a while, for the best valve and quality scope I can find for my Weatherby Vanguard rifle in the $200- $300 range.
The sight picture is the best tested in this range, one of my concerns was the larger eyepiece on the Vortex leaving room for the bolt on the Vanguard! Visualize that for a minute; no problem at all! When looking, I compared the picture at the edges of the scope and the width of that picture as well; the focus is fine! Another consideration was: Is it easy to adjust? Do you need a special screwdriver or coins? Again, the Vortex was very good and needed nothing.
Last but not least, I had 2 Deputy Sheriffs from Alachua County Florida, help me with sighting. Their personal scopes cost more than my rifle and scope put together! One owned a comparable scope from an exceptionally well known manufacturer on a rifle that was $1000 more than mine. Both liked the Vortex considerably better than the other scope. If you check EBAY, you might even find a deal below $200.
